Dubai Mallathon 2026: Free Summer Walking Is Back — And This Year It Runs for Three Months

It is 6:45 in the morning. Outside, the Dubai heat is already stirring and the thermometer will hit 44°C before noon. But inside Dubai Mall right now, the corridors are cool and hushed — and hundreds of people are already striding through the gleaming marble hallways, earphones in, fitness trackers ticking, faces glowing with the quiet satisfaction of a good early start. This is the Dubai Mallathon, and as of today, June 3 2026, the dates for this year's edition have officially been revealed.
If you have ever wondered how Dubai residents stay genuinely fit through the relentless summer months, the Mallathon is your answer. It is, in my opinion, one of the most brilliantly practical community initiatives this city runs. And for 2026, the organisers have made it bigger and longer than it has ever been before.
What Exactly Is the Dubai Mallathon?
The Dubai Mallathon is a free community walking event held inside some of Dubai's biggest air-conditioned shopping malls during the summer season. Think of it as a morning marathon — only instead of roads baking in 45°C heat, you are walking through cool, polished marble corridors before the shops open for the day.
Organised as part of Dubai Active — the emirate's initiative to promote healthier, more active residents — the Mallathon has grown year on year into a beloved fixture on Dubai's summer social calendar. Families, fitness enthusiasts, retirees, and busy professionals all come together to clock their daily steps in gloriously climate-controlled comfort. Head to Dubai Sports Council for official programme announcements and registration details.

Why 2026 Is the Biggest Mallathon Yet
Here is the exciting news confirmed this morning: the Dubai Mallathon 2026 dates have officially been revealed, according to Time Out Dubai. And if you thought last year was impressive, 2026 has raised the bar significantly.
Back in September 2025, the Government of Dubai Media Office announced that the Mallathon would be expanded into a full three-month annual event starting from 2026 — a major upgrade from all previous editions. Instead of a few weeks of structured mall walks, you now have an entire summer season to rack up your steps, build your fitness routine, and be part of one of Dubai's most vibrant free community events.
Three months of free, organised, beautifully air-conditioned walking. During a Dubai summer. I genuinely cannot think of a smarter way to stay fit through the hottest period of the year — and I will absolutely be taking full advantage.
Which Malls Are Part of the Mallathon?
The Mallathon takes place across several of Dubai's major shopping centres, with walking routes mapped through the corridors before the shops open. The confirmed participating malls have typically included The Dubai Mall (the world's largest shopping mall), Mall of the Emirates, Ibn Battuta Mall, City Centre Mirdif, Deira City Centre, and Dragon Mart 1 & 2. Based on previous editions and the expanded 2026 programme, the full 2026 list includes:
The Dubai Mall — Google Maps — the world's largest mall, with long wide corridors and multiple levels built for serious step counts
Mall of the Emirates — home to Ski Dubai and extensive multi-level walking loops through one of Dubai's most iconic destinations
Ibn Battuta Mall — the beautifully themed explorer mall with six distinct court sections that make every walk feel like an adventure
City Centre Mirdif — a popular choice for families and residents in the eastern parts of Dubai, with a warm community atmosphere
Deira City Centre — a classic option for walkers in Deira and the older, more traditional districts of the city
Dragon Mart 1 & 2 — vast retail spaces that translate into impressively high step counts on the tracker
For the confirmed full 2026 mall list and precise daily session timings, visit the official registration portal at Dubai Active / Dubai Sports Council when it opens.

Angel's tip: Arrive before 7am. There is something almost cinematic about walking through a multi-storey mall in the early morning quiet — just the hum of enormous air conditioning units, the gleam of freshly cleaned marble, the echo of footsteps and not much else. It is one of my absolute favourite ways to start a summer morning in Dubai, and the Mallathon gives you the perfect excuse to do it regularly for three full months.
How to Register — It Is Completely Free
One of the best things about the Mallathon: it costs absolutely nothing. Registration is free for all participants, and the process is simple:
Head to the Dubai Active portal when registration opens — details are published on the Dubai Sports Council website
Create your participant profile with your name, contact details, and age group
Select your preferred mall and walking session timing
Show up on the morning and start walking
Participants typically receive a session card that gets stamped at each attendance, and regular walkers earn certificates and recognition for hitting milestones. It is motivation built directly into the programme design, and it genuinely works.
What to Pack for Your Mallathon Morning
Walking in a mall sounds low-maintenance — and it is — but a little preparation makes a real difference. Here is my standard kit:
Comfortable walking or running shoes — marble floors are harder on your feet than they look over long distances
A refillable water bottle — hydration matters every bit as much in air conditioning as in outdoor heat
Lightweight workout clothes — you warm up faster than you expect once you get moving
Earphones and a good playlist or podcast — the perfect companion for longer laps
Your fitness tracker or phone's built-in step counter — track every step
A light snack or protein bar for after — many participating malls have cafes open early for morning walkers
Who Is the Mallathon For?
Honestly — everyone. I have watched grandparents in their seventies walk laps alongside twenty-five-year-olds who usually hit the gym. I have seen parents pushing prams, groups of colleagues catching up mid-stride, and solo walkers entirely absorbed in a podcast. The pace is yours entirely, the distance is your choice, and the community is warm, welcoming, and beautifully diverse.
Dubai summers can feel isolating when the heat drives everyone indoors. Outdoor routines get shelved. The weeks blur into a long stretch of delivery apps and box sets. The Mallathon cuts right through that. It gets you up early, gets you moving, and puts you into a space where hundreds of other people are making exactly the same healthy choice at exactly the same time. That collective energy is genuinely infectious.

Staying Active All Summer Long in Dubai
The Mallathon is one brilliant anchor for a summer fitness routine, but it pairs well with several other options to keep you moving through June, July, August, and September:
Indoor cycling studios and gym classes — many run special summer day-pass and membership deals
Hotel and residential club swimming pools — summer rates are often the best value of the year
Early morning beach walks at JBR or La Mer — before 7:30am is the only sensible outdoor window
Yoga and Pilates studios running early morning and late evening timetables designed around the heat
Indoor padel courts, rock climbing walls, and activity centres that genuinely come into their own during summer

My Summer Mallathon Plan
I have already blocked out those early morning slots in my calendar. If there is one thing I know about Dubai summers, it is that the residents who genuinely enjoy this season are the ones who find their indoor routine and commit to it — and the Mallathon gives you exactly the right structure to do that.
Whether you walk every morning or drop in a few times a week, every session counts. Three months is a long time — long enough to build real habits, clock real milestones, and feel genuinely proud of what you accomplish before the rest of the city has even had breakfast.
The marble corridors of Dubai's mega-malls are your track. The air conditioning is your best friend. The whole community of Dubai walkers is right there with you. I will see you in the mall. Early morning. Before the shops open.
