Here’s exactly how I spend a Dubai summer without melting — snow, sharks, the future, and the art of a proper mall day.

Yes, snow. Ski Dubai at Mall of the Emirates keeps a slice of winter going all summer: toboggan runs, a snow park for little ones, real ski and snowboard slopes, and those famous penguin encounters. Book a morning slot and you’ll forget the heat entirely.
Meet the ocean at Dubai Aquarium
Inside the Dubai Mall, the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo stops everyone in their tracks: a vast viewing panel in the atrium, then a glass walk-through tunnel beneath sharks and rays, with penguins and otters upstairs. Easy to pair with lunch and the fountain show for a full, cool day.
Step into the future
The Museum of the Future is immersive, hands-on and genuinely thought-provoking, with floors on space, ecosystems and wellbeing. A perfect summer afternoon for older kids and teens — just book timed tickets ahead, it sells out.

For an adrenaline day, IMG Worlds of Adventure is one of the world’s largest indoor theme parks — roller coasters, Marvel and Cartoon Network zones, all air-conditioned. Great for older kids who need to burn energy when it’s blazing outside.

Beyond the flagship five, Dubai's indoor calendar has a handful of lesser-known gems worth slotting in. VR Park (Dubai Mall, lower ground near the Aquarium) is Dubai's first virtual reality park — over 30 VR and augmented-reality experiences, from a Walking Dead horror zone to an edge-walk simulation above a skyscraper. Day passes let you pick experiences at your own pace — great for teens and adults. Xtreme Zone and Fun City branches spread across the city's malls and offer budget-friendly activity — go-karts, laser tag, bumper cars and soft play for younger kids, typically under AED 100 for two hours. For something calmer, Kinokuniya at the Dubai Mall is a quietly wonderful hot-day retreat: 75,000 books, Japanese stationery, and a manga corner where you can easily lose an afternoon. Summer cinema seasons at Vox and Reel Cinemas run IMAX and 4DX blockbuster programmes — the air-con is legendary. Planning your Dubai summer: practical notes
Getting the most out of a Dubai summer is about timing and preparation. Here's what I've learned from years of living here. Book before noon. Most indoor attractions (Ski Dubai, Museum of the Future, Dubai Aquarium) release early-bird slots at opening. Arriving after midday means queues — especially on weekends. Use the metro. The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and Museum of the Future are all a short walk from their nearest metro stations. In the heat, the metro is your best friend — cool, fast, and exactly AED 3–6 per trip with a NOL card. Layer up. Dubai malls and indoor attractions can be aggressively cold — bring a light jacket or cardigan, especially for Ski Dubai, where you'll be handed a proper coat. Download the apps. The Dubai Summer Surprises 2026 app, the Dubai Mall app and individual venue apps offer loyalty points, flash deals and live queue information. IMG Worlds and Ski Dubai both have mobile ticketing.
